Ather Energy Expands Production Capabilities with New Facility in Maharashtra 2024

In a significant move to boost its manufacturing capacity, Ather Energy announced on Wednesday its plans to establish a third manufacturing facility in Bidkin, Maharashtra. This strategic expansion will enable Ather to produce both electric two-wheelers and battery packs, thereby enhancing its production capacity and market reach.

Ather Energy, known for its cutting-edge electric scooters, currently operates two manufacturing facilities in Tamil Nadu. One of these facilities is dedicated to battery production, while the other focuses on vehicle assembly.

These existing facilities have been instrumental in meeting the increasing demand for Ather’s electric vehicles across the country. However, the new facility in Maharashtra marks a pivotal step in Ather’s journey to optimize logistics and expedite the delivery process to its growing customer base.

Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis Hails Ather Energy’s Rs 2000 Crore Investment in Maharashtra, Boosting Employment and Economy

Devendra Fadnavis, the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, expressed his support for Ather’s investment in the state, citing the state’s strong business infrastructure. “Maharashtra provides an ideal environment for businesses and continues to attract significant investments. We are excited to have Ather join us, further cementing Maharashtra’s role as a key player in India’s automotive and manufacturing industries,” Fadnavis stated. He emphasized the economic benefits of the Rs 2000 crore investment, which is expected to create jobs for nearly 4,000 people. Fadnavis also took to social media platform X to highlight the development’s significance for the state’s industrial growth.

This cutting-edge facility will have the capacity to manufacture up to 1 million vehicles and battery packs each year, showcasing Ather’s commitment to scaling production and meeting growing market demand.

Swapnil Jain on Ather Energy’s Strategic Expansion

Swapnil Jain, Co-founder and CTO of Ather Energy, outlined the strategic reasons behind the decision to open a new facility. He highlighted, “Since 2021, our Hosur manufacturing facilities have been the core of our national operations, efficiently fulfilling demand from customers across India.” With continued support from the Tamil Nadu government and a reliable network of suppliers, these facilities remain vital to our operations. However, as our product lineup expands and consumer demand for our scooters grows, we recognized the need to diversify our production by adding a new location that will be closer to key markets across the country.”

The new manufacturing plant in Maharashtra is poised to significantly enhance Ather’s logistical operations by cutting transportation costs and shortening delivery schedules. Jain acknowledged the Maharashtra government’s efforts in advancing electric vehicle (EV) production through favorable policies. “We are deeply appreciative of the Maharashtra government’s initiatives that support the expansion of EV manufacturing,” Jain remarked.
