Deadpool & Wolverine: OTT release date 2024 ! Where can you watch it ?

deadpool and wolverine digital release

Updated 12 Nov, 2024 : Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s Deadpool & Wolverine is now streaming on Hotstar.

It marks the highly anticipated debut of these mutant superheroes in Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). While both characters previously appeared in Deadpool and X-Men movies produced by 20th Century Fox, it was Disney’s acquisition of the esteemed Hollywood studio in 2017 that finally brought these characters into the MCU fold.

While Deadpool & Wolverine is part of the MCU, it stands apart from Disney’s superhero movies like Avengers: Endgame due to its production by 20th Century Studios as an R-rated film. Disney is known for its family-friendly content, with all previous MCU chapters being rated PG-13.

It will eventually stream on Disney+ instead of Hulu, which is usually the platform for more mature-themed 20th Century Studios films. There’s a specific reason why the R-rated Deadpool and Wolverine get to stream on Disney+, which will be explained later in this article.

This movie will initially become available on digital streaming platforms after it runs in theatres.

Currently, the only way to watch Deadpool & Wolverine is in theatres. Make sure to check out your local listings for showtimes.

When Deadpool & Wolverine transitions to home entertainment, it will first be available on digital streaming through premium video on demand (PVOD). PVOD releases are offered on platforms like Prime Video, Apple TV+, Fandango at Home (VUDU), and Google Play. Typically, these releases cost $24.99 to purchase or $19.99 to rent for a 48-hour period.

Deadpool & Wolverine’s PVOD debut will largely depend on its performance in theatres. However, all signs suggest that the film is poised to be a hit right from the start.

Variety (an entertainment business news ) projects that it will earn between $160 million and $170 million in 4,200 North American theatres and between $180 million and $190 million in international ticket sales, resulting in a global opening gross of approximately $340 million to $360 million. The trade publication also noted that the film had a production budget of $200 million and an additional $100 million allocated for prints and advertising.

Given that it is expected to become an international blockbuster, predicting its PVOD release date is a bit more challenging. Typically, it takes about 60 days from the theatrical release of a 20th Century Studios film to its debut on PVOD (Premium Video on Demand). This timeline was observed with the studio’s previous releases, such as The First Omen (released in theatres on April 5 and on PVOD by May 28) and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (released in theatres on May 10 and on PVOD by July 9).

If Deadpool & Wolverine adheres to the 60-day release model, it could become available on digital streaming as early as September 17 or September 20, since PVOD releases typically occur on Tuesdays and Fridays.

When Will ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Arrive On Disney+?

Despite being rated R and a 20th Century Studios release, Deadpool & Wolverine will be available on Disney+ as its first subscription streaming service.

The reason it will not premiere on Hulu, unlike The First Omen and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, is that Disney aims to consolidate all its Marvel titles on the same streaming platform. Consequently, when Deadpool & Wolverine makes its streaming debut, it will join Deadpool, Deadpool 2, and Logan as the latest R-rated Marvel title available on Disney+.

Depending on the film’s financial success, Deadpool & Wolverine might take longer to debut on subscription video on demand (SVOD) than the typical 90-day window for most other 20th Century Studios titles. For example, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, which was released in theatres on May 10, is set to start streaming on Disney-owned Hulu on August 2.

If Deadpool & Wolverine follows the same release pattern, fans could expect to stream the movie on Disney+ as early as October 25.

Deadpool & Wolverine will have preview screenings on Thursday evening before its nationwide theatrical release on Friday.
